Pelvic floor physical therapy includes interventions to address a wide range of dysfunction that occurs when muscles, nerves and or bony structures of the pelvic girdle and low back are impaired. Impairments can include, but are not limited to, tightness, weakness, or poor coordination of pelvic muscles and nerve irritations. These impairments result in unwanted symptoms Like pain or lack of bladder or bowel control.

Pelvic floor physical therapy is similar to the physical therapy technique of other body parts! The pelvic floor consists of muscles, nerves, and bony structures that require the same attention to function optimally as any other body part. The main difference lie only in the location treated and functions Achieved.

At Women’s Health of physical therapy of Central MD, we strongly believe in the multi-disciplinary approach to improving pelvic dysfunctions. 1/4th of US women report experiencing one or more pelvic floor dysfunctions that greatly affect quality of life and well being. Through physical therapy interventions, women can regain their agency by learning to manage their symptoms independently and achieve long term relief from symptoms.
